Studying for the LMCC II…

… makes me susceptible to surfing for bizarre news stories.

Yahoo news really came through on this one:

TOKYO – Japanese police say a 43-year-old piano teacher’s sudden divorce from her online husband in a virtual game world made her so angry that she logged on and killed his digital persona.

She used his identification and password to log onto the popular interactive game “Maple Story” to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May.

The official said the woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000

I don’t know what’s weirder: the murder of the avatar (!!!), or the fact that there could be real-world consequences.

  1. Wow, that is possibly one of the funniest things I’ve read all week! I’m just picturing a virtual detective, investigating the crime in the virtual world. Dusting for pixelated fingerprints.

  2. Great mental image… maybe it’s the same guy from “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”

  3. HAHAHAHA!
Thought that my facebook divorce caused a stir!
