Anyone who works in emergency or primary care must have noticed that more often than not days turn out to have themes. My last ED shift was CHF themed: nearly everybody who came in had some amount of CHF, and needed a little lasix. I also get UTI days (usually with a few simple UTIs, a couple of folks with stones, a pyelo, and one really old person with a honking urosepsis), and laceration days (usually bank holiday weekends when everybody’s mowing/fixing cars/DIYing).
Today was an odd one:
The elderly pregnancy theme day. One after another, ladies over 37 have come in to say to me: I haven’t had a period, I’m throwing up, I have a positive pregnancy test, and OH MY GOD.
Wild.
